Despite Obama administration efforts to squash it, a bi-partisan congressional resolution to call the Turkish extermination of Christian Armenians what it was, Genocide, is approved. The Turks, as always, react with anger and threats. The Armenians were mass murdered for two reasons, their faith and their industrious nature.
Barack Obama... change we can believe in. Except when it does not suit his agenda.
I grew up with a coffee table book on the genocide right there on full display, 24/7. In it was nothing but morbid photos of skeletal figures, starving and dying and those already dead, laying in mass graves. Women and children... many children. Photos were taken by a German military officer. It's all documented by Henry Morgenthau, then US ambassador to the Ottoman Empire.
The Armenian people have been like ghosts existing through the decades, remembering and haunting the deniers with nothing more than the truth. This is a great start.
Okay now, when the blog resumes it will be back to business as usual. Right now, American raised Gary is off to do a really American thing; it's off to see Blue Oyster Cult at Patriot Place with a pal of mine. But this news pleases me greatly. Little by little this stone gets chipped away at.
